Latvian Public Electronic Mass Media Council (SEPLP), after evaluating the explanations from LTV about the failure to ensure a high quality live broadcast of the arrival of Latvia’s national ice hockey team after winning bronze in the World Ice Hockey Championship this year, concluded that LTV needs to develop a clear internal order for operations during emergency situations.
The board of LTV was asked to provide written explanations as to what happened. A meeting was then held with the board of LTV and related officials to ask them additional questions about the failure to provide a proper broadcast.
During the meeting officials concluded that LTV’s existing order for broadcasts in emergencies is not detailed enough and should be improved.
To prevent similar situations from happening in the future, LTV is committed to discussing the topic with mobile network operators about a separate, independent data transfer service, as well as discuss internal regulations about employees’ responsibilities, actions and mutual communication in similar situations. LTV is also committed to developing procedures that will govern operational communication in emergencies.
On the 29th of May the live broadcast from LTV that showed the arrival and welcoming of Latvia’s national ice hockey team from the World Ice Hockey Championship was lost and there was no signal from the Freedom Monument.
