The Saeima faction of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) will make its decision on which presidential candidate to support on Wednesday, the 31st of May, as confirmed by ZZS Saeima faction leader Viktors Valainis.
Currently it is unknown when ZZS could announce its decision – during debates are after one of the votes.
On Tuesday, the 30th of May, ZZS met with Jew Unity’s presidential candidate, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs. Valainis said the party and the candidate discussed various security-related topics.
The head of the opposition faction said JV has chosen “a very capable candidate” that “did not disappoint” with his answers during the meeting.
Other candidates – Uldis Pīlēns and Elīna Pinto – are considered capable as well. ZZS plans to interview them on Wednesday, the 31st of May.
Currently it is difficult to say if the Saeima could elect a new president on the 31st of May, said Valainis.
As it is known, there are three candidates running for presidency in Latvia. Elections will be held by the Latvian parliament on the 31st of May.
