German police have searched the homes of members of the environmental activist group Last Generation in connection with the creation of a criminal organization, writes Politico.
The Bavarian criminal police said in a statement that authorities are investigating the connection of the seven suspects to the creation and support of a possible criminal organization. Investigators accuse the suspects of criminal use of 1.4 million euros obtained in donation campaigns. According to the police, the purpose of the search was to reveal information about the structure and financing of the group.
Two of the suspects are accused of planning the crime –
they planned to sabotage the oil pipeline leading from Trieste in Italy to Ingolstadt in Germany.
The raids have provoked the anger of environmental activists, who are actively expressing themselves on social networks. Many refer to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s words that the Last Generation’s controversial actions are “completely crazy”.
The police started the investigation after receiving countless submissions from the public since the middle of 2022. The search was carried out in 15 properties throughout Germany. Officials have seized assets and frozen two accounts. The Last Generation website has also been shut down.
