The Saeima faction of the political party Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) has plans to meet with presidential candidate from New Unity Edgars Rinkēvičs on the 30th of May.
ZZS representative Dace Kārkliņa notes that the meeting is scheduled for 08:30 a.m. on the 30th of May in the Saeima. During this meeting it is planned to discuss Rinkēvičs’ opinion about topics important to Latvia’s development.
ZZS faction has already meet with Combined List party’s presidential candidate Uldis Pīlēns. Next week, on the 24th of May, the party plans to meet with Progressive party’s candidate Elīna Pinto.
ZZS Saeima faction manager Viktors Valainis stresses that deputies are very responsible when it comes to the presidential elections, and it is very important for the party to listen to candidate’s vision for the future.
“We want the president to work to benefit of the entire people. It is highly important to ensure the president is able to improve the government’s work and request responsibility from the executive power through necessary reforms,” stressed Valainis, adding that the next president needs to serve an impulse for Latvia to break from the current stagnation.
ZZS deputies will select their preferred presidential candidate after interviewing all of them.
As previously reported, presidential elections will be taking place in Latvia’s Saeima on the last day of May. There are three candidates in total: The Combined List political party has selected its founder and businessman Uldis Pīlēns; New Unity political party has selected Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkēvičs; Progressive Party has selected “public management expert Elīna Pinto” as their candidate.
None of these candidates have a majority support in the Saeima to secure a confident victory.
