Russia installs large “propaganda screen” aimed at Narva promenade

A large screen has been installed in Russia’s Ivangorod opposite to Estonia’s Narva. It is worth noting that the two cities are separated by a river. It is believed that this screen will show footage of festivities from Russia’s Victory Day celebration.
A large concert is planned to take place near the fortress in Ivangorod.

Mayor of Narva Katri Raik says residents have noticed the installation of a stage and the screen on the other side of the river.

Construction of the stage continued for a week. Before then the territory was cleared of bushes.
She compared the situation to relations between North and South Korea, where on the border separating the two countries North Korea has a microphone directed at their southern neighbour, broadcasting communist propaganda.

“Narva River is a border between two worlds – west and east. Such a location is an attractive place for stage performances,” she said.

In response to this, Narva Museum decided to hang a poster near Hermanis Castle Flag Tower, depicting [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s portrait stained in blood with the words “Putin War Criminal” facing Ivangorod.

The poster will be very visible to the people that will attend the concert in Ivangorod.

Estonian Police and Border Guard Department reports that in the morning on Tuesday, the 9th of May, there was a meeting between Estonian and Russian border guards on the bridge connecting the two sides. The meeting was organised by the request of the Russian border guards. During this meeting they requested the removal of the aforementioned poster.
Estonian border guards responded to this request by saying “such posters are not prohibited in our country, we operate in accordance with Estonian laws and Russian officials have no rights to request the removal of this poster”.
Previously, someone wrote the word “Children” on the asphalt outside Narva Culture Hall. The mayor called this act a provocation.
