Latvian For Stability party prohibited from using Sigulda’s trade symbol S!

Riga City Vidzeme Suburb Court has confirmed the peaceful resolution reached on the 11th of April between Sigulda Council and political party For Stability!, which provides for the party ceasing to use S! trade symbol, which is registered by Sigulda.
In accordance with the agreement, the party will completely cease using S! In any information or promotional materials. The party will no longer use it in various promotions, its office, as well as souvenirs and accessories. The symbol will no longer be used by the party in printed or electronic media either.

The party has also agreed to no longer use S! as the party’s abbreviation.

Previously the court satisfied Sigulda Council’s request to put S! trademark under protection, which is used by the city both as an abbreviation and as part of its “S!gulda aizrauj” slogan.

As previously reported, For Stability political party had previously employed S! in its various promotional materials.

Sigulda Council’s Patents Office has been using the aforementioned trademark for more than 12 years. It is strongly associated with Sigulda in the minds of local residents and tourists. This is why Sigulda Council has decided to fight for its rights as the sole user of this trademark in Latvia, as well as to prevent misleading associations with the municipality’s values.
