Compared with the same month of 2022, retail trade turnover in Latvia increased by 2.8% in January 2023, putting the country among 12 EU member states in which growth was observed in this period of time, according to data from Eurostat.
A more rapid climb was observed in Slovenia (+18.5%), Romania (+5.8%) and Malta (+5.7%). In Lithuania retail trade turnover in January was 2.1% higher than a year ago.
The most rapid drop was observed in Belgium (-8.9%), Germany (-6.8%), as well as Denmark and Sweden (-5.8% in both).
In EU countries for which data is available, retail trade turnover in January went down by 2.2% when compared to the year prior. In Eurozone countries it went down by 2.3%.
Compared with the month prior, retail trade volumes both in the EU and Eurozone increased by 0.3% in January.
The biggest leap was observed in the Netherlands (+4.9%), Luxembourg (+4.6%) and Slovenia (+4.1%). The most rapid drop was observed in Austria (-9.8%), Slovakia (-1.4%) and Hungary (-0.6%). In Latvia retail trade volume in this volume increased by 1.4% in this period of time. In Lithuania it increased by 2%.
No data is available for the Czech Republic, Greece, Croatia, Estonia, Italy and Spain.
