During an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, the 16th of February, Riga City Council decided to withdraw the plea previously submitted to the Constitutional Court in regards to the decision made by the previous Minister of Environment Protection and Regional Development Artūrs Toms Plešs to halt the city’s territorial development plan.
Because Latvia’s new Minister of Environment Protection and Regional Development Māris Sprindžuks decided to cancel his predecessor’s decision, this means the dispute is resolved and there is no need to spend money on the lawsuit, as explained by Riga’s Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis.
As previously reported, amendments passed by the 14th Saeima to the Riga Historical Centre Preservation and Protection Law the goal of which is «unblocking» the previously halted Riga’s territorial plan have come into force.
The new territorial development plan for Riga was developed several years ago, but the previous minister of regional development decided to halt it, causing a split between the parties in the ruling coalition in Riga.
