Saeima picks candidates for committee to investigate finance sector’s «full makeover»

Parties represented in the 14th Saeima have picked candidates to work in the newly-formed parliamentary committee for the investigation of the country’s «full makeover» and consequences from it.
Latvia in First Place (LPV) political party, which is the main force behind the formation of this committee, has picked Viļis Krištopans to work in this committee.
New Unity has picked Edmunds Jurēvics, Combined List has picked Andris Kulbergs, Progressive Party has picked Andris Šuvajevs, and the Union of Greens and Farmers has picked Harijs Rokpeļņis.
The National Alliance has picked Ģirts Lapiņš and For Stability has picked Viktorija Pleškāne.

Depending on when the legislative draft with candidates is put on the agenda, the Saeima may vote on candidates at the closest meeting – Thursday, the 23rd of February.

Previously it was unofficially mentioned that Krištopans may be picked as the chairman of this committee. If this happened, election of the chairman would depend on the vote from the representative of Progressive Party, considering the proportion of coalition/opposition votes in the committee.
As previously reported, 34 Saeima deputies have proposed forming a parliamentary committee to investigate the «full makeover» of the country’s finance sector, which was intended to enhance state monitoring, the negative consequences for the state finance and capital sector, as well as investigate possible intentional bringing of PNB Bank to insolvency. The committee also plans to investigate the situation with ABLV Bank and Baltic International Bank.

The Constitution of the Republic of Latvia states the Saeima is to compose a parliamentary investigative committee if it is requested by no less than one-third of its deputies.

As previously reported, LPV, Union and Farmers Union and For Stability managed to gather signatures from 34 Saeima deputies in favour of this committee.
