Latvians donate aid worth EUR 38 million to Ukraine

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Latvian residents and companies have donated aid worth a total of EUR 38 million to Ukraine, says Ziedot.lv communications manager Ilze Ošāne.
Hundreds of thousands of Latvian residents and thousands of companies have donated aid to Ukraine. The total size of donations comes not only from money but also the value of equipment donated to contribute to Ukraine’s fights against Russia.
The biggest volume of donations came from bank transfers, followed by donations of goods and services, calls to charities and donations of cash to special donation boxes. Every week charity concerts in support of Ukraine were organised in Latvia, as were various theatrical performances and various cultural events.
Along with Latvian residents and companies around 90 associations and foundations have taken part in providing aid to Ukraine. The biggest contributors are: Ziedot.lv (19.7 million), the foundation Uzņēmēji mieram (EUR 5.5), Tavi draugi association (EUR 5 million), Tvitterkonvojs/Agendum association (EUR 4 million), TEV association (EUR 4 million), VICHE confederation of Ukrainian associations in Latvia (EUR 1 million), Latvijas Samariešu apvienība (EUR 850 000) and Viegli palīdzēt association (EUR 790 000).
The biggest portion of aid was diverted towards support of Ukrainian defenders – EUR 21 million.
Latvia has sent more than 1 200 cars, 52 000 m2 of masking nets, 120 000 UAV drone tails, 15 000 canned meat products, 200 000 candles, 5 tonnes of knitted socks, 6 000 bullets, 82 quadricycles, 325 generators, radios, UAVs, 500 tonnes of diesel fuel, sniper weapons, military medkits, winter uniforms, footwear, various kinds of arms, computer equipment, MREs and other useful goods.
EUR 14.6 million was spent on humanitarian aid and medical assistance for Ukraine. 614 shipments of humanitarian aid were sent to Ukraine, containing food, hygiene products, child food, diapers, medical and household goods.
