airBaltic prepares for expansion after covid and geopolitical challenges

Latvian national airBaltic airline reports that in efforts to continue expansion and thanks to the gradual recovery of the aviation industry the airline hired on 931 new employees.
By the end of 2022 the airline’s total number of employees was 2 143. This year it is planned to push it close to 2 500. airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss: «This confirms that airBaltic remains one of the most popular employers in Latvia. Additionally, since we expect our air fleet to expand even more, the number of employees will continue growing as well.»
In 2022 the airline announced 225 vacancies, received 16 800 job applications and performed 3 660 job interviews.

The majority of job applications were for the co-pilot, steward and mechanic positions.

Job applications were received from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Ukraine and Germany.
The majority of professions and fields represented in airBaltic are stewards (>670), aircraft maintenance workers (>410), pilots (>370), flight and operational maintenance specialists (>290), commercial staff (220), as well as IT, human resource management, finance and other office workers (>180).
There are also 72 students currently studying at airBaltic Pilot Academy.
The average age of airBaltic is 35 years. The average work experience reaches six years. Eight employees have worked at the airline since its foundation in 1995. As for gender equality – 46% of employees are women and 54% are men. Currently there are representatives of 30 different nationalities working at airBaltic, including 40 Ukrainians, who joined the airline after the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The state of Latvia is the airline’s main shareholder (97.96%), other shareholders have 2.04% of shares.
