It is reported that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has planned to visit the United States and will probably meet with the President of the United States, writes the BBC.
If Zelensky goes to the US, this will be his first visit abroad since the 24th of February, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, and would emphasize how important Ukrainian relations with the US are. Although the media has not been able to obtain official confirmation of Zelensky’s plans, it is believed that he may also address Congress. The President of Ukraine regularly receives foreign delegations in Kyiv and visits soldiers throughout Ukraine.
On the 20th of December, Zelensky paid a previously unannounced visit to Bakhmut, and the president also regularly communicates with the leaders of other countries. As the visit involves huge security risks, any plans are subject to change.
In a letter sent out on the 20th of December, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, invited all members of Congress to be present on Wednesday evening.
The United States has provided significant military support to Ukraine, and according to November data, it amounts to 18,5 billion dollars. Zelensky has asked for additional support and stated that the cost of defending Ukraine is about 5 billion for Ukraine every month. The latest information indicates that the United States is considering the delivery of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine.
