Latvia’s Public Utilities Commission (SPRK) decided on the 15th of December that the gas distribution service tariff proposed by Gaso JSC complies with the established tariff methodology, as confirmed by SPRK.
New tariffs will come into force on the 1st of January 2023. The tariff plan provides for changes for the fixed and variable portion across all user groups. The new tariff also provides changes to the seasonal distribution tariff. Tariffs will be in force until the 31st of December 2023, as confirmed by SPRK.
Changes with the gas distribution tariff are related to the considerable gas price increase, as well as the significant drop in volumes of gas supplied to users, SPRK reports, adding that the existing tariffs have been in force since July 2021.
According to the commission, the fixed portion of the tariff or the connection fee for all user groups will increase equally – by 22%. The variable portion, which depends on gas consumption, will increase differently for all consumer groups (eight in total), because they are influenced by each tariff group’s three-year average gas consumption value.
Changes will also affect seasonal tariff users – 85% of natural gas volume is consumed between the 1st of May and the 30th of November.
The effect of Gaso JSC tariff changes on bills of Latvijas Gāze JSC users will be relatively low. Considering the tariff plan for the first half-year of 2023 published by Latvijas Gāze JSC in the Latvian Herald on the 9th of December, for users who use gas to prepare meals and whose consumption is around 4 m3 a month the monthly fee will increase by EUR 1.53 (14%), as for users who use gas for heating and whose consumption reaches 200 m3 a month, the fee will increase by EUR 4.50 (2%).
To find out the exact monthly charge for gas for each individual household under the new tariff, SPRK invites users to use the tariff calculator found on Latvijas gāze JSC website.
Changes to Gaso JSC distribution tariff will affect the end users, including heating energy merchants.
BNN previously reported that Gaso JSC gas distribution system operator submitted to SPRK a new gas distribution service tariff plan that provides for an increase of the fixed and variable portion of the tariff.
