80% of Latvian residents donate or provide support to other people at least once a year. Most often donations go to support of children. This year in particular aid was especially frequently provided to Ukraine and its residents, according to data from a survey by If Insurance.
According to results of the survey, 59% of Latvian residents donate every now and then. 3% of respondents have automatic donation settings on their internet banking accounts. 6% of respondents said they usually donate money in December only. 32% of respondents do not make any donations at all.
Results of the survey also indicated that people of all ages donate money at least once a year. The most active people in Latvia here are residents aged 45 to 54 years.
At the same time, when compared with other Baltic States, donation habits of residents in Estonia and Lithuania are similar – 41% of Estonians make donations several times a year, whereas in Lithuania, like Latvia, 57% do that.
29% of Estonian residents and 22% of Lithuanian residents donate to charity once a year.
When asked what they donate most often, 87% of Latvian residents said money, followed by clothes (59%), as well as furniture, toys, equipment (38%), as well as food (25%).
The survey also reveals that in the past year 54% of respondents have donated money towards support of children, 37% have donated towards support of Ukraine, one-third have supported animal shelters and sick people. 29% have donated to homeless people, 22% have donated to support of seniors, 15% of respondents said they have helped people who lost their home to a fire or other disasters.
In other Baltic States, similarly to Latvia, the main emphasis is put on providing aid to children and Ukraine.
