German lawmakers want security rules revised

German MPs want a review of the security conditions in the parliament buildings after the coup plot that came to light this week, which also included the use of force against officials, writes Reuters.
On the 8th of December, police raids and arrests were carried out in Germany, as a result of which 23 persons connected with the right-wing radical group Reichsbürger are currently in custody. According to the information provided by the German prosecutor’s office, a former member of parliament from the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is also among those detained.
Investigators have indicated that the conspirators, many of whom are members of the radical group Reichsbürger, planned to take over the German parliament by force (the plan also included the assassination of members of the government), overthrow the government, and declare a new government with the monarch’s successor, Prince Heinrich XIII, at the head.

Members of the Reichsbürger do not recognize the modern German state apparatus and believe that Germany is not a legitimate state.

Some of the members want to see Germany as a monarchy, while others adhere to the Nazi ideology and believe that Germany is occupied.
Green Party MP Konstantin von Notz pointed out that the security rules of the Bundestag are not meant to allow the enemies of the constitution to come to power. He said: «We have to increase the protection concept for the Bundestag without sabotaging the everyday life of democratic lawmakers.»
The Vice President of the Bundestag added that it will be carefully reviewed which security measures need to be adjusted.
