Latvian coalition parties may announce minister candidates next week

Next week parties of the forming coalition in Latvia may start nominating minister candidates. The Combined List (AS) political party has plans to start officially nominating their minister candidates next week, said Saeima deputy Māris Kučinskis in an interview to TV3 programme 900 seconds.
He said until now candidates for all minister posts have remained unclear, adding that the reason for that is because Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, who is in charge of the government formation process, decided to focus on the government declaration project first. There are 14 work groups in charge of the process.
According to Kučinskis, on Friday, the 2nd of December, members of the government may be presented with the second version of the government declaration. On Monday, the 5th of December, it is planned to discuss the declaration project with social partners.
«It’s all coming to an end. Next week we should see the declaration completed. We should also see transparent discussions about minister candidates,» said the politician, adding that the Saeima vote to approve the new government may take place the second half of the week after, as planned by New Unity.
The Combined Party is offered to take charge over four ministries – Ministry for the Interior, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Regional Development and Ministry of Health.

Kučniskis says he could become the Minister for the Interior.

He did not mention any other minister candidates the party may name soon.
If Kučinskis becomes minister for the interior, his main priority will be the improvement of the civil protection system, so that all residents know what to do if ‘X-hour’ ever comes.
