12 new electric trains to be available for passenger services in Latvia; the rest are still in testing

From Monday, the 26th of February, onward 12 new electric trains will be available in Latvia for passenger services. The remaining five will remain under dynamic testing, as reported by Vivi Communication and Marketing Office manager Edgars Butāns.
“Last week there were ten of 17 new electric trains available. As of Monday, however, we have two more trains that have only just completed their dynamic tests,” the company comments.
The remaining five trains continue their dynamic tests. Škoda Vagonka engineers will continue working to prevent previously uncovered defects are truly fixed and so that the trains can be used to provide passenger services.
As previously reported, in January Škoda Vagonka announced the company is committed to making sure at least 95% of supplied electric trains are available for passenger services in two months’ time.
“We can see the manufacturer is serious about his promise. So far they have been putting in active efforts into preventing existing defects and organising additional training for our workers to help them deal with unforeseen situations. The manufacturer has significantly increased the number of specialists sent to Riga, basically providing a 24/7 regime to resolve situations quickly and efficiently,” explains Pasažieru vilciens board chairman Rodžers Jānis Grigulis.
According to the risk reduction plan developed by Pasažieru vilciens, the fixed trains are to be released gradually. First they will be tested without passengers on board. New trains will also be deployed on single-lane railway routes and sections on which infrastructure improvement efforts still continue.
“It is highly important for us to provide passenger services that are not only modern and convenient but also reliable and with the highest possible accuracy. This is why this week we plan to work with Škoda Vagonka this week to perform joint tests on the remaining five trains,” said Grigulis.
